About the Opportunity
Currently, the Town of Drayton Valley is seeking an experienced Human Resources Professional to join our dedicated team in Central Alberta on a full-time basis.

As our new Human Resources Professional, you'll work collaboratively with our Human Resources Manager, Assistant CAO, and CAO as you provide leadership and support in the areas of recruitment, staffing, training & development, creation and application of policies and procedures, employee handbook modernization, and overall employee support.

More specifically your responsibilities will include:

Developing and maintaining the employee handbook.
Scheduling annual reviews as they are required.
Preparing, developing, implementing, and maintaining policies, procedures, and guidelines on various matters of employment including recruitment, promotion, compensation, and training.
Creating and maintaining various databases pertaining to human resources management.
Participating in employee recruitment including advertising, selection, interviewing, and reference checking before subsequently extending job offers.
Acting as an advisor and support to management and employees in matters of employee relations including performance evaluations, training and development, progressive discipline, conflict resolution, and the interpretation of policies, employment standards, and human rights.
Developing and ensuring job descriptions for all employees are accurate and up-to-date.
Working with department managers to identify and act on training gaps or opportunities for staff.
Working with the payroll department to monitor attendance, absences, and short and long term leave of staff.
Investigating and understanding the causes of staff absences that affect productivity and insurance premiums in order to recommend solutions designed to resolve cases of chronic attendance difficulties.
Actively participating in meetings and discussions for matters related to proposed organizational structural changes, Human Resources processes, policies, procedures, and leadership.
Providing support to department heads regarding the development and implementation of department-specific procedures.
Maintaining personnel files as required under legislated privacy requirements.
Conducting exit interviews and analyzing the resulting data in order to report trends.
Implementing employee recognition programs.
In order to qualify for this role, you'll need a post-secondary degree or diploma in Human Resources, Business Administration with a focus on Human Resources, or a similar field along with a minimum of 3 years of experience in various areas of Human Resources. Experience in a unionized work environment is a must as is a Class 5 Alberta drivers' license. Possessing either a CHRP or an RPR designation is considered a significant asset.

As our ideal candidate, you'll join us with excellent communication skills in both written and verbal form along with knowledge of best practice approaches when it comes to Human Resources. Your strong interpersonal skills and high level of professionalism will enable you to build up a rapport with our employees as you work to provide guidance and coach employees and management through complex, difficult, and emotionally charged issues in a constructive and confidential manner.

Above all, you'll be a hands-on individual with strong organizational and timekeeping skills who is equally comfortable working as an individual or as part of a team.
