Accountant
The duties and responsibilities of the Accountant are subject to change and additional duties may be assigned over time as the situations require. The duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Manage the College’s financial operations, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, general journal, and ledger.
Ensure accurate and timely recording of financial transactions, such as journal and ledger entries, reconciliation, and adjustments.
Manage other financial activities, such as bank statements, inventories, expenditures, tax returns, and other accounting and financial records and documents.
Administer accounting and financial systems, including Microsoft Dynamics and Salesforce, and prepare financial records for employees, departments, and other applicable internal and external stakeholders.
Oversee the month-end and year-end closing process, ensuring accounting principles and reporting deadlines.
Examine the accounting records and prepare financial statements and reports regularly for internal stakeholders.
Analyze financial statements and reports and provide financial, business, and tax advice to the management.
Maintain the financial recording accuracy following the established financial and accounting standards, procedures, and internal controls of the organization.
Ensure compliance of financial and accounting activities with the provisions of the provincial and federal Income Tax Act, Canadian Business Corporations Act, or other statutes.
Stay updated on changes in the accounting standards and regulations, and advancements in accounting technology, and advice improvement opportunities.
Train and share knowledge with new employees within or outside the finance department, when necessary to collaborate and improve operational efficiency.
Knowledge and Skills

The successful candidate must have the following knowledge and skills, include but are not limited to:
Minimum two (2) years of experience as an accountant or finance professional in the Canadian education industry. Private college experience in Alberta will be considered an asset.
Strong knowledge and hands-on experience with financial technologies and software, including QuickBooks, Microsoft Dynamics, and Salesforce.
Functional knowledge of accounting standards, regulations, Income Tax Act, Canadian Business Corporations Act, or other relevant financial statutes.
Must be tech-savvy, organized, and detail-oriented with strong research and data analysis skills, verbal and written communication skills, interpersonal and team-building skills, and excellent time management and problem-solving skills.
Should have strong leadership, collaboration, listening, and conflict-resolution skills.
Education and Credentials

Bachelor’s degree (or Equivalent) in Accounting, Finance, or a relevant discipline from a recognized institution.
Professional accounting or finance certifications, such as CPA (or equivalent) completed or in progress.
