Responsibilities
Responsible for all aspects of lease accounting, including recognition and measurement according to IFRS 16. Ensure Right-of-Use (ROU) assets, liabilities, related depreciation and interest reconcile to the lease accounting schedules.
Oversee the accurate and timely recording of fixed asset transactions in the Fixed Asset sub-ledger including additions, disposals, transfers, impairments per company policy and accounting standard. Report capital expenditures to internal departments and Statistics Canada. Prepare fixed asset Statement of Value by location for annual insurance renewal.
Review sub-ledger schedules, reconcile with the general ledger accounts and resolve discrepancies – ensuring accuracy and completeness.
Perform review of month end journal entries (payroll, depreciation, expense accruals, warranty, fixed assets).
Review and provide reports as requested for decision making purposes (daily cash flow, weekly payment proposal, point of sale information reconciled to accounting system, divisional financial statements, etc.).
Assist with providing data for corporate tax reporting requirements, audits, insurance claims, etc.
Analyze Balance Sheet and Income Statement variances between current month, prior year and budget.
Supervise staff to ensure quality of work and productivity are maintained, while adhering to deadlines.
Identify opportunities for process improvement and automation.
Assist in the development and implementation of Accounting goals, policies, priorities and procedures.
Establish and maintain strong, collaborative relationships with internal and external customers.
Perform other accounting duties/projects as assigned.
Qualifications
Post-secondary degree, diploma or certificate in business, commerce, accounting or related discipline
Minimum five years of relevant work experience
CPA designation preferred
Strong technical accounting, problem solving and analytical skills
Strong knowledge of Microsoft Excel, including prior experience in the use of pivot tables, advanced formulas, filtering and organizing large volume of data
Proven ability to work as part of a team contributing to a positive and progressive work environment
Ability to meet deadlines during peak periods
Strong verbal and written communication skills
Knowledge of Microsoft Dynamics 365 is an asset
