About the Opportunity
AEC currently has an exciting opportunity for both a Junior Accountant and a Senior Accountant to join our team on a full-time basis in St. Catherines, Ontario.

Reporting to the Finance Manager, you will manage the general accounting (day-to-day accounting and monthly close activities), payroll and tax activities for HQ. You will ensure the companys financial statements and resulting supporting schedules are captured timely, completely, and accurately in accordance with GAAP. You will also work with Finance teams in different countries to promote best practices and to facilitate harmonization of processes. More specifically, your responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

General Accounting and Compliance:

Overseeing General Ledger functions to ensure accuracy, timeliness, and conformity with accounting standards, company policy and procedures
Completing Journal Entries, Balance Sheet Account reconciliations, and taxes
Executing and monitoring the month, quarter and year-end closing
Supporting AR and AP functions and processes and FX hedging management (USD, EUR, CAD)
Full responsibility in VAT/ Intrastat (Belgium & Germany), government remittances in Canada (i.e., HST, EHT, WSIB, Source Deductions)
Payroll:

Preparing and processing bi-weekly payroll and group RRSP
Preparing ROEs and T4s and managing employee health benefit program
Completing statistical and employee earnings information
Reporting & Analysis:

Preparing financial reports
Coordinating with Finance team in Belgium/Germany for local statutory accounts and compliance
Preparing reports for ad-hoc projects (i.e., divisional budgets, forecasts)
Internal Controls:

Analyzing current systems and processes to ensure accurate recording of accounting data
Identifying, advocating for, and implementing potential process improvements
Ensuring backup and continuity management in the general accounting team through the year
More About You

In order to qualify for the Senior Accountant role, you will need at least 5 years of relevant experience in Consultancy, Taxation, Audit or Accounting. In order to qualify for the Junior Accountant role, you will need at least 1-2 years of relevant experience. A Bachelors Degree in Accounting or equivalent is also required, while a CPA designation will be considered an asset.

As our ideal candidate, you have strong knowledge of ERP accounting systems, proficient Excel skills (including pivot tables and relational queries), as well as excellent communication skills (both written and verbal). You act with integrity, honesty, and compassion, and are able to confront issues directly. Moreover, you are able to give and accept praise as well as direct feedback, and are able to do so in a tactful and respectful manner. You are able to effectively build relationships across the organization, and can effectively adjust and prioritize tasks to meet deadlines.

Above all, you are ethical, detail-oriented, self-directed, able to quickly adapt to change, demonstrate intellectual curiosity and have a mind for numbers.
