About the Opportunity
Currently, the Town of Drayton Valley is seeking an experienced Utilities Manager (Water & Wastewater) to join our dedicated team in Central Alberta on a full-time basis.
As our new Utilities Manager, you'll provide coordination, collaboration, and dedication to all areas of the Water Treatment Plant in order to ensure commitments and services are delivered to all stakeholders in an effective and efficient manner.
More specifically your responsibilities will include:
Planning, organizing, and coordinating the overall operations of the Water Treatment Plant in coordination with the Public Works department.
Developing and implementing plans, goals, and objectives while monitoring the departments' performance against the annual budget.
Advising and collaborating with the General Manager of Engineering and Assistant CAO on departmental issues.
Carrying our budgetary recommendations for compliant and efficient operations.
Assisting with the preparation and monitoring of capital and operational budgets annually for approval through the budget process.
Determining the availability of grants and other forms of funding to support capital projects.
Performing testing and reporting as required by local, provincial, and federal governing bodies.
Attending Council meetings as a technical resource in order to provide recommendations, reports, or project updates.
Providing innovative solutions to streamline processes and create efficiencies in the Water Treatment Plant.
Providing leadership and working with staff to develop customer-service strategies through training and day-to-day management practices.
Planning, organizing, directing, and evaluating the performance of staff.
Ensuring that training and development needs are met and providing assistance and support when it's needed.
Resolving customer requests, complaints, and problems or referring them to the appropriate contact.
Ensuring that all staff follow safe work procedures and complete all training requirements through the Town of Drayton Valley's Safety Sync program.
Managing all matters pertaining to the Collective Agreement.
In order to qualify for this role, you will need a minimum of 5 years of practical water and sewer experience and previous experience supervising staff. You'll also need to have the following certification in Level I Wastewater Treatment, Level II Water Distribution, Level II Wastewater Collection, and Level III Water Treatment as well as a valid class 5 drivers license. A technical diploma in Civil Engineering or Mechanical Engineering would be an asset.
As our ideal candidate, you'll join us with excellent communication skills in both written and verbal form along with a natural aptitude for problem-solving. Your strong leadership skills and your ability to make decisions using a proactive and flexible approach will aid you as you successfully lead a team to maintain and manage all areas of our Water Treatment Plant.
Above all, you'll be a hands-on individual with strong organizational and timekeeping skills and a real enthusiasm for the work that you do.
