Unit Manager - Toronto
The Critical Care Program includes a 25 bed ICU that provides evidence based services within an inter-disciplinary team model. The unit cares for critically ill patients from the medicine, surgery, obstetrics, gynecologic, neurosciences and trauma programs. Specialized services including continuous renal replacement (CRRT) for acute renal failure, rhabdomyolisis and sepsis; hemodialysis for acute or chronic renal failure; therapeutic plasma exchange for hematological and autoimmune disorders; and the regional bariatric and thoracic programs.
Description:
Reports directly to the Program Manager, Critical Care. The Unit Manager is accountable for day-to-day clinical operations of the Intensive Care Unit and ensures the delivery of quality and safe patient care. The Unit Manager plays an integral role in the management, development and education of all front line staff and provides day-to-day frontline leadership, guidance and direction to the entire inter-disciplinary team. The Unit Manager is accountable for ensuring a safe working environment. Duties include the recruitment and management of human resources in a unionized environment, maintaining staffing levels, developing and monitoring of performance improvement measures, and implementing program, site, zonal and provincial initiatives in collaboration with other members of the inter-professional team. Some committee or working group involvement may be required. The Unit Manager acts as a leader of change on all quality improvement initiatives within the unit by actively participating in implementation as well as the daily promotion, auditing of performance and identification of barriers to implementation.

Required Qualifications:
Registered Nurses of Alberta (CARNA) and current BCLS and ACLS certification is required. Must demonstrate effective critical thinking and decision-making skills and have solid understanding of the role of the Unit Manager in supporting and maintaining a culture of patient safety and continuous quality improvement. Proven coaching and mentorships skills required as well as excellent conflict resolution and communication skills. Demonstrated commitment to ongoing professional growth and development is required. Proficiency with various computer software programs including Microsoft Word, Outlook and Excel is required.

Preferred Qualifications:
Previous management experience is preferred. Previous experience with Quality Improvement Initiatives or Multidisciplinary Projects is preferred. Please note:
