About the Opportunity

Scout Talent is working on behalf of our client, an award-winning organization on Vancouver Island, who is looking for a full-time Senior Accountant / Financial Controller based in their Nanaimo, BC office.

Reporting directly to the Ownership, this role involves a hands-on management of the organization's full-cycle financial operations including: bookkeeping, financial planning, budget management, and debt financing.

More specifically, your responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Participating in planning the objectives, methods, and resource allocation of the companies
Monitoring and analyzing monthly and quarterly operating results, providing timely and relevant reporting
Administering and maintaining the accounting system, including creating monthly cash flow projections and performing general ledger entries
Managing payroll, accounts payable, and receivable, as well as job costing and invoicing
Conducting bank deposits and reconciliations
Ensuring compliance with local, provincial, and federal reporting requirements
Preparing financial analysis for job bidding, contract negotiations, and risk analysis
Coordinating debt financing and debt service payments
Preparing year-end financial summaries and working with external accountants for tax return preparation
Communicating effectively with staff, peers, and the community, and providing industry-specific accounting updates and regulatory changes

About You

To qualify, you will need a CPA designation and knowledge of GAAP. A minimum of 3-5 years of experience in finance, accounting, budgeting, or a relevant role will also be essential.

Additionally, the following skills and background will be highly valued:
Proficiency in Sage and QuickBooks
Knowledge of computerized financial and accounting reporting systems
Experience with budgeting, forecasting, and job profitability analysis
Familiarity with federal and provincial financial regulations and other applicable agency regulations (e.g., Worksafe, Employment Standards)
IT knowledge and skills
