Description

Located in the Calgary office, the Senior Accountant for the Heartland Petrochemical Business Unit will report to the Director, Heartland Accounting. The Senior Accountant is responsible for the accounting, analysis and reporting related to Heartland’s Propane Supply Agreements (PSAs).

Key Activities and Responsibilities:

Oversee the PSA accounting function with accountability for the variance analysis of revenue, cost of sales and inventory related to propane suppliers (monthly, quarterly and yearly analysis)
Ensure PSA revenue, cost of sales and inventory financial information is accurate & complete, and all month end processes are completed under established financial reporting deadlines
Review and approve general ledger (G/L) journal entries and provide accurate accounting of revenue, cost of sales and accruals
Review and sign off on G/L account reconciliations including recommendations to address reconciling items
Responsible for the analysis of the PSA contracts, financial impacts and variances associated with these agreements
Presentation of monthly PSA results to the Heartland leadership team
Management of third-party statements and invoices to ensure that they are accurately reflecting PSA agreements
Coordination of third-party audits on statements and invoices related to PSAs
Collaboration with the Heartland Commercial Team to ensure that customer requirements are being met
Developing internal and external relationships to understand factors that will influence the financial transactions related to the PSAs
Ability to manage multi-entity, multi-currency environments
Analyze month-end fee revenue, reconcile revenue to customer contracts and prepare variance analysis to ensure completeness
Mentor and lead day-to-day activities of team
Promote and implement business process improvements

Education, Skills and Experience:

CPA Designation required with six to ten years of applicable industry experience
Knowledge and experience in accounting under IFRS
Experience in dealing with complex contracts, joint venture experience preferred
Effective communication skills with the ability to manage multiple internal and external relationships (both written and oral)
Strong attention to detail, organization, and accuracy
Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel
SAP experience preferred
Ability to set and meet challenging deadlines and work independently in a fast-paced, growth-oriented environment
