Located in Toronto, the Art Gallery of Ontario (“the AGO”) is one of the largest art museums in North America, with a collection of close to 100,000 works. Through the collection as well as collaborations with leading museums around the world, the AGO presents wide-ranging exhibitions and programs to more than 1 million visitors annually. Focused on delivering content of exceptional quality and contemporary relevance, the AGO is deepening relationships with existing members and visitors, attracting new and diverse audiences, and strengthening its recognition on a global scale. At the AGO, our Food and Beverage team has the opportunity to get creative and build menus and culinary experiences that reflect our featured exhibitions and art pieces.

We are currently searching for a Regular Full-Time Events Sous Chef who will be an integral part of the AGO Food and Beverage team. He/She/They will oversee and supervise production and service of all special event menus under the direction of the Event Chef.

The ideal candidate will have the following skills and experience:

-A number of years directly related experience in a comparable position at a high quality hospitality operation or directly related banquet cooking experience in a high quality, volume, hospitality operation.
-Directly related experience on a professional culinary team supervising and/or mentoring subordinate staff
-Extensive knowledge of food handling and advanced culinary techniques.
-Extensive knowledge of safety and sanitation standards in accordance with municipal health board.
-Demonstrated ability to handle knives and all kitchen equipment and to instruct safe handling to others.
-Well developed organizational and time management skills.
-Demonstrated knowledge of Microsoft Office and Outlook.
-Well developed interpersonal and communication skills.
-Well developed awareness of contemporary creative cuisine, gastronomy and food and wine pairing techniques.
-Awareness of current food trends, relevant competitors and customer expectations within a high-end hospitality operation.
-Familiarity with food and labour cost control systems.
