Learn Bespoke Bartending In Your Home

Here's a gift idea for you:

Have you ever watched a professional bartender build your favourite cocktail and thought, "Man, I wish I could do that!"?

Well, it's not rocket surgery.

I wasn't born with a lifetime's knowledge of what liqueurs go with what spirits and in what proportions. That was something I had to learn, and, quite frankly, not many bartenders were willing to share their [arcane] knowledge.

I am willing, though, to teach you.

Wow your boss the next he/she drops by with a Gin Martini that could've come from the bar at the Plaza Hotel, or an Old Fashioned such as might be enjoyed at the Sazerac Restaurant in old New Orleans.

Or, don't keep all of this knowledge for yourself. Gift it. What a unique Christmas present, the gift of having a professional mixologist come to your recipient's home and impart years of knowledge in an evening of fun.

The program for the evening looks like this:
- We go over the basics beforehand via email or phone, including which liquors to have on hand, what equipment is needed, what mixes, etc, you will require on the day. (I can supply all of this, too, if you prefer.)
- You invite your friends - in their role as customers - to show up about half an hour after I've arrived. This gives us a chance to sort out some of the basics, set up the bar properly, and be up and running by the time the first of your 'customers' shows up.
- I take two of you, be that a couple or a pair of roommates or two friends, and I run you through the following (variation on this theme is that I take two of you at a time):
- Basics: We start with a couple of basic things, such as the proper way to open a bottle of wine (if necessary... you'd be surprised how many people mess that up) and the brewer's pour for a beer (it's not what you think).
- Next Steps: I demonstrate and you copy me in the making of a couple of simple cocktails. Your friends imbibe, marvelling at your handiwork.
- Building: We move on to more complicated creations. I show you a few flourishes that not only make you look like a star behind your bar, but also elevate your drinks from the mundane to the sublime.
- Palate Training: Throughout the session, we taste-test everything we're using to build our creations. This trains you to mix in your mind, a valuable asset for any budding alchemist.
- Creating: Finally, we create a signature cocktail, built by you. We tweak it if necessary, based on input from me and from your customers.

At the end of it all, you'll have a half-dozen great cocktails, as well as a few expert-level creations, at the tip of your fingers, ready to wow a date, your partner, your co-workers, or your in-laws (caveat: don't show off too much to the in-laws lest they begin to speculate on your misspent youth).

You'll also have a good, solid spirit bar, complete with equipment, for whenever you or your guests feel like something other Pinot.

Alright. I look forward to teaching you something new. All the best of the Holidays to you all.
A.
ps: Don't forget to talk to me about catering for your evening, too. We've got you covered.
